Hi:
I bought a Hydro 2910 with Woods 7.5 subframe mount BH.
I thought this was a good attachment method , better than 3PH.
Now seeking implements, I was talking to a local NH dealer.
He was not in favor of the sub-frame mount BH saying it is hard on the tractor. Causes 'side loads' (his description) that can break an internal seal. He recommended I not use it too much and move toward a 3PH backhoe, to keep the 2910 life long and without incident. now at 250 Hrs he said its not too late to switch.
Murph, Art, long time owners care to share your opinion?
Jeff P in NH.. digging like crazy.

This is a confusing issue, because Kubota sells what looks like a 3 point B/H but it really has a thick steel sub-frame that goes in place of the top link.
Does your present sub-frame run under the tractor and connect to the FEL mounts?
If it does, and someone is trying to recommend a standard 3 point mount that uses a standard top link.... there is some thing wrong with that recommendation. ....

He probably would prefer you buy a New Holland and trade in your B-series! You have it, don't worry about it! Nothing like creating a little fear to create an opertunity for a sale. Keep on digging! ....

The comments don't make a lot of sense to me.
I think the key was, as Art mentioned, "... I was talking to a local NH dealer.". If you had been talking to a Kubota dealer the story might have been a little different.
My Grandfather used to tell me "Free advice is good, and you usually get your money's worth too.". He was right most of the time.
I think the key to any backhoe on a CUT is to think of the combo, as the the local old-timer who runs the headstone business and digs most of the graves around here with a B-series with a B/h on it puts it, "like a diesel powered Mexican with a shovel". It will dig and dig and dig, but don't expect any world speed records. If the operator thinks of it as a powered shovel and not an excavator it will be fine.
I've never seen a CUT with a B/H damaged from slow easy digging, always from trying to over do it.
Best of luck.

The key to using a backhoe without causing damage is simply to use it the way it was designed to be used. This is especially true with a small BH as on the B, BX, or similar sized machine. A BH is designed to operate in a straight line. You can push loose material from side to side, but you shouldn't force it sideways against a hard surface. You're more likely to "rack" the digging arm or damage a joint than you are to twist the tractor's frame. ....

As a NH tech, that NH salesmen was feeding you a line of B.S. Even NH hoes have a subframe all but exactly like the woods. Tell him to put his side loads crap where the sun don't shine. ....
